Boyle Schools launch art academy – The Advocate-Messenger

Boyle County Schools will launch an arts academy for the 22-23 school year. The arts academy will offer courses in drama, dance, instrumental and vocal music, art, technical theater and promotional media, intensive training and more.

“Boyle County schools are well known for their academic, athletic and agricultural programs, and now is the time we were known for the arts as well,” Superintendent Mike LaFavers said. “We’ve had a history of success in the arts, but we’ve never had our own facility to showcase the work of our talented students and staff. The addition of the Boyle County Performing Arts Center really set the stage for the arts academy.

The arts academy will be available to students in grades 5 through 12 at all five district schools through auditions. Instruction will be provided by full-time certified teachers in art, drama, dance, vocal music and orchestra.

Elementary students accepted into the academy will receive weekly lessons in music, art, dance, and drama, as well as expanded opportunities for field trips, art workshops, and extracurricular programs, such as the orchestra at ropes and private lessons.

Middle and high school arts academy students will receive early scheduling and enrollment (supervised by an advisor designated by the specific arts academy), a wide variety of specialized courses in all art forms, and a choice of show sets.

High school students, in particular, will present two full theater productions each year, while following an arts career path that will prepare them for auditions and college readiness, and pursuing the new seal of artistic excellence. of the Kentucky Department of Education.

The district recently completed construction of the Boyle County Performing Arts Center, a state-of-the-art, 500-seat facility that is equipped to host school and community performances, as well as attract first-class touring productions.

The performing arts center is adjacent to the new Boyle County Secondary School on Cunningham Way and will host the arts academy productions.

Interested students can complete an application for the arts academy later this spring.
